Measure Twice, Cut Once.

HOLY SMOKES! It’s all happening!

They say starting a company is a roller-coaster ride and, sure enough, Legs and I have experienced some of the ups and downs of creating samples in New York. After a couple horror stories (comes with the territory), we got lucky pretty early on and found a wonderful pattern-maker, Tony, who had some free time on his hands in the slow season (before summer) to whip us up some patterns and samples over the last couple of weeks.

Posted up in a small office in the back of a men’s suit store in Nolita, Tony is a gem of a man. Not only does he have impeccable taste (having worked with Armani) but he is by far and away the easiest person to work with that we’ve yet to come across. The first muslin samples were delivered last week. Take a look at the fitting that Legs and I did in his little shop. Che bella!

Now on to the samples which will be fabulously printed and flawlessly executed by the most wonderful Italian man that ever was. Stay tuned!

Businesses Helping Businesses

Down in the West Village there’s a great little spot that The Shaltzes introduced to us called Bone Lick BBQ.  It was where they worked out of when they got their start and now when Cam is in NY, we’ve taken over a back booth and set up A.MOET headquarters on many an afternoon.   And not only are we appreciative of the free wi-fi and our waiter extraordinaire, Carlos (who let’s our laptop wires criss-cross the floor), but they serve up a mean BBQ sandwich too!

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the small businesses out there that are in some cases even unknowingly contributing to our fruitful start!

My very first words were “Lower, Mama lower” which likely meant “Yo Moms, there’s a flower over yonder,” or so I like to imagine.   Ever since then my mom has always told me to “stop and smell the flowers.”   Well, on these beautiful and new Spring days, I’m happy to say I’m reminding myself to do just that!  Happy Spring!

Legs Leap, Cam Click = Teamwork

“We must walk consciously only part way toward our goal and then leap in the dark to our success.”

-Henry David Thoreau

I was a dancer growing up and have managed to retain my leaping skills to this day.  Whenever I see a beautiful place, it entices me to frolic and leap.  Luckily Cameron was in town to catch this West Village leapage on a beautiful spring day between meetings.

Height

Leaving Mood Fabric store in the Fashion District in NY last week, I visited the ladies room on my way out and found myself face to face with this lovely little token:

Sugar be gone!

So this is Cam putting a heavy halt on my choice of sugar intake. Apparently, Splenda is not necessarily great for you and since we have a solidified partnership now (aka we are quasi married), we not only work together but have a vested interest in each other’s health. It’s a beautiful thing really and now my coffee tastes a lot less like “cupcake” and way more like… coffee!

Bolts on bolts on bolts!

As some of you may know, we’re in the market for sample materials. So we hit the streets around Fashion Avenue in NYC to take a look at the selections.  Since we are doing large and vibrant prints on our robes, we were interested to see what kinds of prints we could find of a similar nature.  Here’s a quick sampling of some that we found but you’ll have to wait a bit longer to get a peak at our exact design aesthetic.  All we can tell you is that our prints will be wildly beautiful and significantly different from most of what we’ve seen out there!

A Foxcroft Girl Speaks Out

I was fortunate enough to attend an amazing boarding school in Middleburg, Va for high-school called Foxcroft.  This weekend, I was asked back with another alum to share our story and speak to the girls about life after Foxcroft and how to use your best judgement, tools and morals to navigate the sometimes unfriendly waters of college and it’s temptations.  If our words deterred even one girl from making poor choices that could negatively effect her future, it was more than well worth it.  I’m also happy to report, we’ve already received great feedback from the girls and the faculty, saying that our story was moving and an eye opener, which truly warms my heart.

Alas, it was a great chance to challenge my public speaking skills, a trait I plan to enlist frequently as CEO of A.MOET… so every word counts!
